Loring Park, Powderhorn Park, Uptown and Arboretum Host Art Fairs
A is for ART in August
The second half of summer, from late July through August, should be renamed the Season of Art here in the Twin Cities.
Late July and August bring a bumper crop of art fairs and festivals to town. This year is no exception. The parade of arts starts this weekend in Loring Park, and continues through Powderhorn, Uptown, and the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.
If you’re an art festival devotee—I am a bit of a fan—you’re sure to have your favorite festival and, of course, your favorite artists. While art in all its many forms is the focus, each event seems to have a personality of its own.
The Loring Park Arts Festival has some of the most eclectic arts and artists. Powderhorn seems to have a more laid back, local flavor. The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Art in the Garden festival in mid August has, as you might expect, has a bit of a botanical bent.
Uptown Art Fair Returns In a New (Temporary) Location
The Big Momma of art fairs, the Uptown Art Fair, showcases the largest number of national artists. The Uptown Art Fair was initially cancelled this year due to major road construction in Uptown, but resurrected and moved to Bachman’s. After canceling and then un-canceling the fair and then moving it out of Uptown it will be interesting to see how many people and arts turn out for this year’s event.

No matter which art fair is your favorite, there’s always plenty of great art to see and buy, and the people watching is another kind of art form. So go out and celebrate our Season of Art.
